Position Overview:

Superintendent - Painting and Coatings

The Apex Superintendent for Painting and Coatings will oversee and manage all painting and coating operations, ensuring the highest quality standards while maintaining strict safety protocols and environmental compliance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate painting and coating projects across airport facilities
  • Manage crew performance, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control measures
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and airport operations
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of materials and equipment
  • Develop and implement project timelines and work schedules
  • Conduct regular quality inspections and maintain detailed project documentation
Technical Knowledge Requirements
  • Expert knowledge of industrial coating systems for various substrates, including: 
    • Aluminum surfaces and appropriate preparation methods
    • Steel surface treatments and coating requirements
    • Temperature-sensitive application techniques
    • Anti-corrosion systems
    • Specific coating requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of: 
    • Environmental conditions affecting paint application
    • High-altitude painting considerations
    • Surface preparation standards (SSPC/NACE)
    • Quality control and testing procedures
    • VOC regulations and environmental compliance
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years experience in industrial painting and coatings
  • 5+ years supervisory experience in similar role
  • Coating Inspector certification (Level 2 preferred)
  • SSPC Protective Coatings Specialist
  • Experience with aerospace or aviation facility maintenance
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass airport security clearance
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Capable of climbing ladders and working at heights
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Standing/walking for extended periods
  • Ability to wear PPE including respirators
Additional Requirements
  • Available for emergency response and off-hours work
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Proficient with project management software
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety protocols
  • Experience with high-performance coating systems
  • Understanding of airport operations and security protocols
Work Environment
  • Primary work location: Airports
  • Both indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and temperatures
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Variable schedule including possible nights and weekends
Compensation: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
